Hydrangeas in bloom

Beautiful lavender and pale pink flowers.  This is the bush in front of the kids' window.
Astilbe also starting to bloom.

These are brighter pink with fewer purple blooms.
Astilbe also blooming here.
This is the bush in front of the office window.

The third bush is just getting the flowerheads on it.  Maybe by next week it will be beautiful as well.

Boxes 1-3

Box 1
The cucumber is climbing the trellis after all...with a little encouragement!  I wrapped some of the tendrils around it and have also threaded the top growth through twice now.  It has 4 or 5 flowers on it already.
My one zucchini plant is getting big.  Pepper plants not as big in this box for some reason.

Box 2: somehow I missed pictures of this box last week.
The 2 Sun Sugar cherry tomatoes are doing awesome!  The one on the right is already to the top of the tomato cage.  I need to tie strings between the cages and the trellis to give the others a little more support.

Okra closeup, box 2.  Pretty leaf-shape.
Only one nasturtium left in this box.  Jacob pulled up the other one while weeding.  I hastily replanted it, but it seems the shock was too much for it.

Box 3
Those beans are already starting to take over the box.  The peppers are taller in this box, maybe to keep up with the competition, who knows?  Jacob's lima bean has flowers on it, and the scarlet runner beans have started climbing the trellis.  Maybe we'll get some pretty red flowers soon.  Herbs, okra, cantaloupe, and nasturtiums hanging in there.

Spring Veggies

Healthy peas climbing up the trellis.

Onions and beets hiding under the potato plants.

Box 4 from the front.  Potatoes are kind of taking over everything, but maybe it's good--they're shading all these ones that don't like too much hot weather.

Purple coneflower

Most of the ones I've seen have the orange middles.
This one with the deep red middle is so pretty.

This bush is actually two individual plants that have just taken off this year.
It is now taller than me!

First Harvest

Since it's Fast Sunday, I haven't actually tried the peas yet, but they look yummy!
Hmm...guess it was too early for these beets.  Oh well.  Maybe we can cook up the greens for supper.
